Loy Loy Krathong, Loy Loy Krathong, Loy Krathong is (nearly) here…

One of the most beautiful festivals in Thailand is nearly here! This year’s (2009) Loy Krathong Yi Peng Festivals in Chiang Mai will be kicking off on the 31st Oct 2009, and the Opening Ceremony on the 1st Nov at Tha Pae Gate.

Unfortunately, the mass Khom loy (paper lantern) release at Mae Jo won’t be happening this year, but we’ll still see plenty of these lanterns (and you can release them yourself) in town between 31st Oct - 3rd Nov.

This year, on the 2-3rd Nov, we’ll also be seeing Loy Krathong Sai, originally seen in the Tak Province. Krathongs are linked together with strings then released into the river.
