Photo of the week - 1818 year old pagoda

This pagoda was built in AD 191, and can be found in front of Chiang Dao Caves, Chiang Dao. “Chiang Dao” means “City of Stars”, and is a small country town in Chiang Mai, about 45 minutes drive from Chiang Mai city. It makes a very nice day or overnight trip.

Attractions in the area include visiting hill tribe villages, Chiang Dao Elephant Camp and Chiang Dao Caves. Chiang Dao Caves are particularly interesting because it’s not lit up. You can hire a local guide and kerosene lamps at the entrance to the caves - a very interesting and unique experience!

If you do drop by Chiang Dao, we would highly recommend you have a meal at Chiang Dao Nest for some wonderful food!

    Hi Alice,

Thanks for this! It looks like a great place to visit. I also followed the link to the Chiang Dao site, and it seems like a really neat little place. Is that where you went when your brother and family visited you?

A suggestion: If possible, it would be good to have a simple map with directions to each of your wonderful ’sightings’! I would, for instance like to know if Chiang Dao is within driving distance for me with my motorbike, so if I can look at a map, it will give me a good idea of what I am up against!

I wish you and your family and VERY HAPPY NEW YEAR! May you all be truly blessed, and may you enjoy lots of happiness, success, good health and peace in your hearts.

    Much love and good wishes
    Renate
